Breast augmentation surgery offers you the opportunity to change the size, shape, and profile of your chest. William Franckle, MD, FACS is among a select group of board-certified plastic surgeons with years of experience using the most advanced mammoplasty surgical techniques to achieve natural-looking breast augmentation results.
For flat-chested women with less breast tissue, Dr. Franckle can increase volume and cup size using saline or silicone implants or the patient’s own natural fat deposits along with their natural breast tissue. He also offers breast reconstruction and breast lift surgery for women with an asymmetrical profile or congenital abnormalities, or those looking to enhance their shape after childbirth or sustained weight loss.

What Are the Benefits of Breast Augmentation?
Breast augmentation may offer you many unique benefits according to your specific needs and aesthetic desires. The term ‘mammoplasty’ encompasses all plastic surgery procedures that lift, shape, and increase the fullness of breasts.
For example, breast lift surgery can modify the contours and proportions of your breasts by removing excess tissue and rejuvenating the natural shape.
An augmentation mammoplasty using implants can help correct asymmetry in breasts while also adding fullness and curves to the body. Other forms of mammoplasty include reconstruction and reduction options, which can define your profile, enhance your overall body shape, and reduce strain on your back.
Who Is an Ideal Candidate for Breast Augmentation?
If you have any of the following concerns about your breasts, then a breast lift in New Jersey may be right for you:
- Flat chest or lack of breast volume/size
- Asymmetry between breasts, with one noticeably smaller than the other
- Sagging or flat breasts due to weight loss, aging, or pregnancy
- Tubular breasts, resulting in uneven, constricted, or deformed breast shape
Candidates should be non-smoking adults in good physical health and should not be pregnant or currently breastfeeding. Be sure to talk with Dr. Franckle about your medical history and your unique needs in your consultation process.
Cosmetic surgery is a personal and long-lasting decision, and it’s important that your breast enhancement surgery reflects your own goals rather than the desires of someone else. During your initial consultation, Dr. Franckle will walk through your concerns to pinpoint the specific areas you would like to target and, using digital 3-D imaging technology, help you set realistic goals about the surgical outcomes.

What Should I Expect During Breast Augmentation Surgery?
During your breast augmentation procedure, you will go under general anesthesia, meaning you will be unconscious and not feel any pain.
The implant procedure generally takes 1-2 hours to perform but may require more time if completed in conjunction with another procedure, such as liposuction. As an outpatient procedure, you can expect to go home following your procedure to rest and heal. Dr. Franckle will place the implants and close the incision points, then cover your chest with bandages and provide you with an elastic support bra to hold the new implants in place during recovery.
Avoid anti-inflammatory medication or tobacco use immediately following your breast enhancement procedures to ensure a safe and successful recovery.
What Should I Expect During Breast Augmentation Recovery?
Following your breast implant surgery procedure, Dr. Franckle recommends at least two weeks of recovery time. During this time, patients should wear a compression garment or sports bra to keep the implants in place.
Avoid any strenuous activities like heavy lifting or running, but light activities like walking are encouraged to maintain blood flow.
Whether you have chosen saline or silicone breast implants, swelling, sensitivity, and slight asymmetry during the healing process are normal but should dissipate over time. Pain medication may be prescribed to help reduce soreness, and patients can normally return to normal daily activities after two to four weeks.
Full recovery and attaining your final breast size can take approximately three months.
Cost
The cost for a New Jersey breast augmentation ranges from approximately $5,800 to $8,300*.
The exact breast augmentation cost depends on the type of implants you choose for your surgery. This cost estimate is for breast augmentation only. If a breast lift is needed, the cost will differ. To get an exact price, a consultation with Dr. Franckle in his New Jersey office is recommended.
*Please note that the Virtua Center for Surgery, where your procedure will take place, bills their anesthesia and facility fees separately. The prices listed above may or may not include these service fees.

How to Prepare for Breast Augmentation
To prepare for your breast lift, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons recommends the following steps:
- Schedule a blood test.
- Adjust medications as necessary.
- Stop smoking to aid in the healing process.
- Refrain from taking aspirin and certain anti-inflammatory drugs to reduce the risk of excessive bleeding.
- Avoid recreational drugs like cocaine, which can interfere with anesthesia and recovery.
Because breast augmentation with Dr. Franckle is performed on an outpatient basis, you will also need to arrange for a loved one to transport you to and from your appointment. You will be free to return home after your procedure, which usually takes about 1-2 hours.

New Jersey Breast Implant FAQs
Dr. Franckle will use the optimal incision and implant placement according to your customized surgical plan. The following are the three primary incision sites Dr. Franckle uses for breast implants:
- Areola: A circular incision is made following the natural line of your areola, providing a space for saline implants or small to moderate-sized silicone implants.
- Breast fold: The most common option for silicone implants, a horizontal incision is made underneath the crease of the breast and is hidden from view.
- Armpit: A small incision is made under the arm, and the implant is placed in the chest area using endoscopic equipment.
During your consultation with Dr. Franckle, he will also take exact measurements to determine the ideal placement of the implant once the incision is made. Again, this will be based on your body type and desired results.
Under-the-muscle, or sub-muscular placement, means that the implant is situated partially under the pectoral muscle and is usually recommended for women with small breasts and minimal body fat. An added benefit of this option is that patients can more easily image their breasts during a mammogram, and they have a reduced risk of rippling or imperfections in the implant shape.
Over-the-muscle, or sub-glandular placement, means that the implant is placed over the chest muscles and is most frequently used for sagging breasts or patients with tuberous breasts.
An alternative is the dual-plane method, which is an innovative technique that creates a pocket in the pectoral muscle to place the implant naturally. Each of these placement options creates a different aesthetic, and the best option for you will depend on the amount of sagging in your breasts, the soft tissue and fat in that area of your body, and your specific body type.
Dr. Franckle offers both saline and silicone breast options, as well as the gummy bear implant, which is a shaped gel silicone material. Each of these breast implant options can be customized to create your desired post-surgery texture, shape, size, and movement. Saline implants are placed in your body empty and then filled with sterilized salt water to the exact specifications determined during your consultation.
Alternatively, silicone implants are pre-filled with the silicone gel that is thicker and creates a very natural look and feel. The gummy bear implants are the newest silicone implant option approved by the FDA. Created by Allergan, the makers of dermal fillers like BOTOX® Cosmetic and Juvéderm®, this option results in a soft texture that holds its shape over time and stays in place.
For patients looking to achieve a full-body makeover or mommy makeover following childbirth, breast augmentation using a fat transfer may be ideal.
Additionally, breast augmentation using fat grafting may be recommended as a method for breast reconstruction. This augmentation does not require saline or silicone implants and instead uses the fat from a different area of your body to enhance the shape and size of your breasts.
Completed in conjunction with a liposuction procedure, the fat cells will be injected into your breasts for minor, subtle enhancement. You should consult with Dr. Franckle to determine if this procedure is right for you.
As with any surgical procedure, there are risks involved. Both silicone and saline implants have the risk of rupturing or leaking once placed inside the body. Surgery may be required to safely remove and replace the damaged implant. Saline implants placed over the pectoral muscle can sometimes cause skin rippling due to a lack of tissue covering the implant, which results in a wavy texture in the skin.
Other risks include reduced nipple sensation, scar tissue, and capsular contracture, causing a hardened texture. You should contact Dr. Franckle immediately if you feel a difference in your breast implant shape after your recovery.
The longevity of breast implants can vary depending on several factors, including the type of implant, individual body characteristics, and lifestyle factors. Generally, breast implants are not considered lifetime devices, and it’s essential to understand that they may need to be replaced or removed at some point in the future.
On average, silicone and saline breast implants are designed to last for many years, often ranging from 10 to 20 years or more. However, it’s important to note that they are not immune to wear and tear over time. Changes in breast shape or size, implant rupture, capsular contracture, or other complications may necessitate implant replacement or removal.
Regular follow-up appointments with Dr. Franckle are crucial for monitoring the condition of your breast implants and addressing any concerns that may arise.
