Breast Lift Procedure in New Jersey
If you’re unhappy with the positioning of your breasts and are looking to lift, enhance, or restore their shape, then you may be a good candidate for a mastopexy, commonly known as a breast lift. Many women choose this cosmetic procedure for a variety of reasons, whether from breast sag following a pregnancy, loss of elasticity in the skin from aging or sudden weight loss or gain, or heredity factors.
Due to their effectiveness, the number of breast lift procedures performed in the U.S. has grown 70% since 2000, outpacing breast augmentation by 2-to-1. Dr. Franckle, an award-winning plastic surgeon in South Jersey, is highly experienced in mastopexy procedures and can help you feel more confident in your skin.

Who Is a Good Candidate for a Breast Lift Procedure in New Jersey?
There is no set time for a woman to choose when to get a breast lift procedure. While some women decide to get a breast lift after pregnancy and once they are finished breastfeeding, other women may want this breast-shaping surgery after they lose weight and experience stretched skin. Some may even seek out a breast lift to reshape enlarged areolas.
One of the easiest ways to see if a breast lift is needed utilizes a simple trick: Place a pencil under your breast and see if it stays or falls to the ground. If the pencil remains trapped between your breast and abdominal skin, a lift may be needed.
Only a consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon, like Dr. Franckle, can tell you for sure, but this is an excellent at-home option.
Other signs you may be a candidate for a breast lift procedure include:
- Your breasts are pendulous or have a flat, elongated shape
- Your areolas and nipples point downward
- Your nipples fall below the breast crease when unsupported
- You’re bothered by the feeling that your breasts have lost shape and volume or are sagging
- One breast appears lower than the other
- You have enlarged areolas and stretched skin

How Does the Breast Lift Procedure Work?
Our breast lift procedures in New Jersey are performed on an outpatient basis using general anesthesia. For this procedure, there are three distinct incision patterns. Dr. Franckle will determine which incision is right for you based on the level of ptosis (sagging), the shape, and the size of your breasts.
The first incision borders the areola. The second pattern has an additional vertical incision from the periareolar incision down to the breast crease. The third incision builds on the second pattern, covering a wider area horizontally on the breast crease.
After the incision is made, Dr. Franckle will begin to lift and reshape the underlying tissue to improve your breast firmness and contour. He will also reposition the nipple and areola to help create a more youthful, natural position. If necessary, Dr. Franckle can reduce enlarged areolas by excising skin at the perimeter. Excess breast skin will be removed to compensate for a loss of elasticity, and the remaining skin will be pulled tight as the incisions are closed.
Generally speaking, a breast lift procedure lasts about three hours. You will be given an estimation of time during your initial consultation as well as a realistic expectation of the types of scarring you may experience.
What Is the Recovery Process Like?
After your breast lift in New Jersey, you will be sent home wearing an elastic support bra and light dressings over the incision sites. The special bra should be worn as a “dressing” for two to three weeks following surgery to help minimize swelling and support your breasts as they heal.
You can expect to be uncomfortable for a few days after surgery. Dr. Franckle will prescribe pain medicine to help minimize your discomfort, as well as provide you with very specific instructions regarding how you should take care of yourself during recovery. It’s important to follow these instructions very closely to ensure that your breast lift recovery goes as quickly and as well as possible.
Keep in mind some swelling and bruising after a breast lift procedure are normal and should last about two weeks. Also, you may experience numbness around your nipples, areola, and breast skin that may last a few weeks. To help minimize any pain, avoid straining, lifting, or bending, and sleep on your back or side to avoid putting extra strain on your breasts.
Within two to three weeks of your surgery, Dr. Franckle will remove all of your stitches in a follow-up appointment.
How Long Do Breast Lift Procedure Results Last?
You will start to see your breast lift surgery results immediately following the procedure. However, you will have to wait for the post-surgical swelling to reduce and for scars to fade to see your final mastopexy results.
The results can be fairly long-lasting, but it’s important to remember that your breasts will change throughout your life due to aging and gravity, especially if you have larger, heavier breasts. Changes that occur in the breasts after pregnancy can reduce the effects of a breast lift, which is why it is recommended that you have finished having children before choosing this procedure.
Overall, the best way to keep your results for as long as possible is to maintain a stable weight and keep a healthy lifestyle.
Will I Have Scars After My Breast Lift?
When considering a breast lift, many women are concerned about scarring. It’s understandable that most patients want the smallest scar possible. However, it’s important to remember that Dr. Franckle will recommend the incision that best suits your anatomy. You wouldn’t want to sabotage your surgery’s chance of success by demanding an incision that is not right for your body.
Keeping this in mind, your incision lines are permanent, but they will continue to fade over time. After one to two years, scars that were initially red and raised will soften and become thin and white. Also, many women are able to easily hide their scars in their bras or bikinis.

What Can I Expect During My Breast Lift Consultation in New Jersey?
The consultation before your breast lift is incredibly important, as it allows Dr. Franckle to answer all of your questions, explain the details of the procedure, and review your medical history. This is also an opportunity to define the exact goals of your surgery and make sure your expectations are realistic.
Please arrive at your appointment prepared to discuss the following points:
- Your medical history, including medical conditions, drug allergies, and medical treatments

- Your breast shape and size
- The position and size of your areolas
- The degree of breast sagging
- Skin elasticity and quality, as well as the amount of excess skin
During this appointment, Dr. Franckle will also evaluate your general health and assess any risk factors, as well as examine your breasts, take detailed measurements and photographs, and discuss your options. Don’t be afraid to ask questions during your consultation. As with any surgery, it’s normal to feel some anxiety. This is a time to communicate your expectations, goals, and specific concerns with Dr. Franckle to make sure you are both in agreement on the desired outcomes.

FAQ's
A breast lift procedure, also known as a mastopexy, is designed to elevate and reshape sagging breasts by removing excess skin and tightening the surrounding tissue to support and reshape the breast contour. This surgery can also reduce the size of the areola.
The result is a more youthful appearance with natural-looking results.
A breast lift can be performed as a single procedure or in conjunction with a breast augmentation. However, it is crucial to understand that a breast lift procedure is different from an augmentation in that there is no drastic change in the size of your breasts. While some women report feeling more comfortable while wearing a bra or bikini top, there are no breast implants used in this procedure.
If you wish to add volume as well as elevate your breasts, breast augmentation performed at the time of your breast lift is a great option. A breast lift with implants will not only add volume — it can also help to round out the upper portion of your breasts. We can also perform a breast reduction in combination with a breast lift if you wish to reduce the size of your breasts.
Although breast lifts are recommended for women who have finished their years of childbearing, anyone with fully matured breasts can undergo surgery. New mothers can pursue a breast lift without fear because breastfeeding is still possible after the procedure.
If you have finished childbearing, you may also consider a mommy makeover in New Jersey. This is actually three procedures in one: a breast lift or augmentation, a tummy tuck, and liposuction.
This is recommended for mothers who do not wish to have any additional children because the effects can be diminished if they choose to do so.
After your breast lift procedure in New Jersey, it’s important to monitor for signs of complications. Watch for unusual swelling, excessive pain, signs of infection like redness or warmth, unusual discharge from the incision sites, and fever. Also, be alert for changes in breast sensation or shape.
If you notice any of these symptoms, be sure to contact us as soon as possible for an evaluation.
