Four Signs of Aging Skin
Posted on March 02nd, 2020 by Dr. William FranckleAre you noticing more wrinkles when you look in the mirror? As our bodies age, our skin ages with it. While we cannot stop the effects of aging entirely, knowing the signs and causes of aging skin can help better prepare and treat to lessen the appearance of these changes.
Sun Damage
When your skin receives too much sunlight, it can speed up the effects of aging. Too much ultraviolet light can damage the skin cells in your face and body. This can lead to sun spots, tightness, and wrinkles. By limiting the amount of direct exposure and ALWAYS applying sunscreen, you can help reduce these visual signs of aging skin.
Facial Wrinkles
One of the most notorious signs of aging skin are wrinkles on your face. Wrinkles typically form under the eyes, around the mouth, and across the forehead as your skin ages. This can be the result of excessive dryness, which is common side effect of getting older. Using moisturizers and humidifiers are great ways to help renew your skin and reduce wrinkle formation. BOTOX Cosmetic and injectable fillers are common treatments to temporarily reduce the appearance of wrinkles.
Growing Lumps and Bumps
As people get older, different growths can develop on their faces. These can include moles, skin tags, and even tumors. While a lot of these growths can be benign, it’s best to get them checked out by a doctor as soon as you notice them. In the event that they point to a more serious medical condition, early treatment and removal can offer the best results.
Transparent and Discolored Skin
Aging can also contribute to discoloration, leaving lighter or darker patches of skin on your face and body. This change can be attributed to the thinning of the outer layer of the skin, which is a natural consequence of growing older.
As your skin continues to change and age, you don’t have to live with bothersome, visible blemishes. Although it is a natural process, some of the effects of aging may be unsightly to you.
