Timing Is Everything When Getting Plastic Surgery
Posted on June 20th, 2017 by Dr. William FranckleNo matter what type of plastic surgery you are considering, timing is a big consideration. How far ahead should surgery be scheduled? Are some procedures better undergone during certain seasons?
Here are a few tips for choosing the right time for your cosmetic surgery procedure, taking into account recovery time, maximizing comfort, and common schedule constraints.
Autumn and Winter
The cooler weather and more overcast conditions make autumn and winter ideal times for scheduling more intensive procedures. Not only is recovery more comfortable during this time, but the weather also calls for bulkier clothing—big sweaters, scarves, hats—that can more effectively hide the signs of recent breast procedures and other body contouring surgeries.
You may be surprised by some of the other benefits of scheduling during autumn and winter months. There are a handful of holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas that provide ample vacation time, perfect for recovery from a procedure. Also, consider the “wow” factor of getting a procedure done toward the end of the year. Who wouldn’t want to start a new year off right?
Spring and Summer
The warmer months are often a popular time for cosmetic procedures because it’s the time of year when “beach bodies” are on our minds. Spring breaks and long summer vacations can provide the time needed for healing from major procedures without raising questions from friends or co-workers. If summertime is ideal for your situation, keep in mind the hot, humid weather. Be prepared to resist going out into the heat and limiting your sun exposure for the entire recovery period.
Timing a plastic surgery procedure is ultimately left up to you. Consider our suggestions above and take a close look at your day-to-day life. The most important thing to consider is finding enough time for healing and recovery, a topic best discussed with a board-certified physician, like Dr. Franckle, at a consultation.
