What Is Restylane Silk?
Posted on August 25th, 2018 by Dr. William FranckleWith so many options for achieving fuller lips—from injectable fillers to plumping glosses—it can be hard to keep track of which treatment is which, let alone which treatment is best. While the best method of lip enhancement should only be decided by consulting with a board-certified plastic surgeon like Dr. Franckle, here’s the low-down on one popular method, Restylane Silk.
What Is Restylane Silk?
Restylane Silk is the first injectable filler designed specifically for lip enhancement. It can also treat lines and wrinkles around the mouth, a combination which can lead to more precise lip shaping. Like many fillers, Restylane Silk is made of hyaluronic acid, but this particular filler is made from smaller, smoother particles than other Restylane products. This particle formation, when used with a specially designed ultra-fine needle, may lead to highly precise results that typically last six to 12 months.
Is the Procedure Safe?
Restylane Silk is FDA approved to augment lips and smooth wrinkles in patients over 21. Like most non-invasive procedures, it is an outpatient treatment with no necessary downtime. Furthermore, hyaluronic acid, the primary ingredient, is a sugar naturally produced by the human body, which reduces any risk of an allergic reaction. However, as with any procedure, consulting with a physician is the best way to determine whether a treatment will be safe and effective for the individual patient.
Will There be any Redness or Bruising?
Redness commonly occurs around the treatment area, but it usually subsides within an hour. Bruising sometimes also occurs around the injection site during the first week after treatment. However, this bruising is typically mild and can be easily covered with makeup.
