Dysport vs. Botox
Posted on March 29th, 2011 by Dr. William FranckleAlthough the name Dysport® might not sound very familiar to you, you will be surprised to learn that it has been on the market for the past 20 years in Europe and as of April 2009 was finally approved by the FDA. Dysport® is the newest botulinum toxin and is a fantastic alternative to BOTOX®. Its clinical effect is identical to BOTOX® Cosmetic as they both cause muscle relaxation where injected in appropriate doses. It appears that Dysport®’s clinical effect lasts approximately the same amount of time as BOTOX® (3–5 months). It may also have a faster onset of than BOTOX® (1–2 days to Botox’s 3–5 days). Even so, it has only taken about 10% of the market share away from BOTOX®.
We compare BOTOX® and Dysport® to our patients as we compare Coke to Pepsi. Some patients will love one, and other patients will love the other. Both products are safe and effective when used appropriately. Our own patients are extremely pleased with the results of both. Why not give each a try to see which one you prefer?
